Federal issues and legislation affect airports and air travelers in Iowa. The 107th Congress convened in January 2001 under new leadership to begin its business. The Iowa DOT will track and provide comments to the Iowa Congressional Delegation on important legislation affecting Iowa. It is important for communities to be aware of issues that may have an impact on their airports. The annual transportation appropriation process is also important for airport improvement funding. This site will include information on major bills in Congress and other federal issues that may impact Iowa.

The Aviation Investment and Reform Act for the 21st Century Act (AIR-21) reauthorized funding for airports through FY2003. For a summary of selected issues of interest to Iowa in AIR-21 click here.  Congress will need to reauthorize or extend the funding during FY2003 for programs to continue in FY2004.
